Now when I say this guacamole is easy, I mean EASY. You can make it in less than 10 minutes with only 5 ingredients.

Obviously guac makes a great dip for crunchy tortilla chips, but I also love serving it with shredded beef enchiladas, chorizo quesadillas, shrimp tostadas and pretty much any other Mexican recipe.

    Why Homemade?

Sure, you can buy guacamole at the store. But in my opinion, it never tastes quite right. Homemade guacamole is so easy, you may as well whip up a quick batch! I use avocado, red onion, salt, lime juice and cilantro in my dip. You can customize with other ingredients like tomato and jalapeño slices if you like!

    What You'll Need:

    • Ripe avocados: I've found that 2 jumbo avocados make enough guacamole for 3-4 adults. Double the recipe if you need more!
    • Lime juice: For two avocados I like juicing half a lime, but that's just personal preference. If you like that citrus flavor add more. 🍋‍🟩✨ Avoid bottled lime juice, it tends to taste stale.
    • Salt: Kosher salt is my preference and I typically add around ¼ teaspoon. Regular table salt also works fine.
    • Red onion: Mince it up nice and small!
    • Cilantro: I love cilantro, but some people don't like the flavor. If that's you, feel free to leave it out.

No tomatoes? No jalapeños or garlic? Not for me! But you can customize this guacamole and make it your own. It's okay to use this recipe as a starting point. But i'm telling you, there's something magical about this simple 5 ingredient combo.

      Picking Perfect Avocados 🥑

Perfectly ripe avocados will give a little bit when pressed with your finger. If the flesh doesn't give at all, the avocado isn't ripe yet. If you won't be making your guacamole for a few days, you can let them ripen on the countertop!

How To Prevent Browning (Storage Tips)

When avocado is exposed to air it activates an enzyme in the flesh, which causes oxidation and browning. To slow this enzyme and keep guacamole green:

      1. Add citrus: Lime tastes good in guacamole but it also slows oxidation. Lemon juice also works! I stir citrus right into my guacamole and also find it helpful to drizzle some extra on top when storing in the fridge.
      2. Limit air exposure: Smooth guacamole into an even layer in an airtight container and place a piece of plastic wrap right onto the top of your guacamole to keep air off.
      3. Ziploc bag method: Spoon guacamole into a Ziploc bag and press flat to remove all of the air!

Refrigerate: Guacamole will last 1-2 days in the fridge when stored properly. If it begins to brown you can spoon of the brown part!

Freezer instructions: I've never frozen guac, but according to this reddit thread, it is freezer friendly. Commenters suggest a thin layer of citrus or yogurt on top before freezing to prevent oxidation. The Ziploc bag method is also mentioned as a win for freezer storage and quick thawing.

      Frequently Asked Questions

What can I dip in guacamole (other than chips)?

Bell pepper slices of any color, veggies, carrots, broccoli, cucumber slices, and so much more! Pretzels would also be yummy. 🤤

      No jalapeños? No tomatoes?

I don't love tomatoes or jalapeños in my guacamole but you can absolutely add them. It's just a preference thing!

Can I use lemon instead of lime?

Yes! Lemon juice will work. Though I do prefer the taste of lime juice.
