    It's So Spooktacular!

Simple: A delicious sweet treat that requires minimal ingredients and only ten minutes of hands on time.

Fast: We've all been there! You want to celebrate a holiday but you're low on time. This chocolate bark is the perfect solution when you're running behind and need a last minute recipe.

Festive: This easy dessert is perfect for gifting, for Halloween parties or simply as a fun treat to enjoy at home.

    Your Grocery List:

    • Chocolate chips: I generally purchase semi-sweet, milk or dark chocolate chips, but any type will work. You can even use chocolate bars or candy melts! And don't forget that white chocolate is also an option.
    • Pecans: This ingredient is optional! But I personally like chocolate bark even more when it's got a little crunch. You can substitute walnuts, peanuts or even pretzel sticks if that's what you have on hand.
    • Halloween sprinkles: Look in the baking isle at your local grocery store for edible candy eyeballs! I also like using green, purple, black or orange jimmies sprinkles. Pumpkin, bat or ghost shaped sprinkles would also be very fun. Amazon and craft stores are always fantastic for festive holiday baking supplies.

How To Make Halloween Chocolate Bark

Keep scrolling for the full recipe card and measurements. We’ll start here with a quick overview!

    Temper chocolate:

    • Add your chocolate morsels to a microwave safe bowl. Little drops of water can cause chocolate to seize up, so be sure your bowl is dry.
    • Microwave chips in 30 second intervals, on high power, stirring in-between. This method of melting chips is called tempering and it's important! Working slowly will prevent chocolate from burning.
    • Stir chopped pecans into melted chocolate.

    Spread and decorate:

    • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and spread chocolate into a thin, even layer. It doesn't have to be perfect!
    • Add colorful sprinkles and candy eyes, then place bark in the refrigerator to chill for 20-30 minutes.

    Cut into squares:

    • Using a sharp knife, cut your halloween candy bark into squares.
    • You can also break it into smaller pieces, by hand, for a more rustic look.
    • Serve and enjoy!

    Important Recipe Tips

    • Temper your chocolate: In other words, melt it slowly to prevent burning. Only microwave in 30 second intervals and always stop in-between to give the chips a good stir. Repeat this process until the chocolate is fully melted, it should take 3-5 minutes total depending on your microwave.
    • Avoid moisture: Even a little bit of water can cause chocolate to seize up and harden. Make sure your bowl is nice and dry.
    • Stovetop: You can melt chocolate chips on the stovetop using a double boiler.

    Recipe Variations

White chocolate bark: Use white chocolate chips or candy melts instead of dark chocolate.

Add almond extract: For delicious nutty flavor, add ½ teaspoon of almond extract to your bark.

Espresso powder: Staying up late?! Add espresso powder to your chocolate bark for extra energy.

Mix-ins: Try walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds or mini pretzels instead of pecans. You can also make your bark without any add-ins, but I really love the crunch!

Peppermint: Halloween is here and that means Christmas is right around the corner. Make peppermint bark to celebrate Santa's arrival!

    Storage

Place Halloween bark candy in an airtight container or Ziploc baggie and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can chocolate burn in the microwave?

Yes! Chocolate can absolutely burn in the microwave. I recommend heating in 30 second intervals and stirring in-between to prevent burning.

Why is my chocolate hardening in the microwave?

If even a little bit of water gets into your chocolate, it can cause seizing or hardening, so be sure your mixing bowl is perfectly dry.

    Equipment

    • 1 Large baking sheet *Mine is 13x17 inches

    Ingredients

    • 2 20oz bags chocolate chips *See note below
    • ½ cup chopped pecans *Or walnuts, peanuts, pretzels

Chocolate chips: I like to use dark or semi-sweet, but use whatever you prefer! Even white chocolate chips will work fine.

    • Spread mixture onto parchment lined baking sheet and decorate! Transfer sheet to the refrigerator and chill bark for 20-30 minutes.
    • Cut bark into squares or break it apart with your hands for a more rustic look. Enjoy!

    Storage:

    • Refrigerate bark in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for up to 2 weeks.
