Making an iced matcha latte at home is SO easy. Skip the Starbucks or Dunkin' run and keep that money in your pocket. This simple copycat recipe uses only three ingredients and tastes nearly identical to an expensive coffee shop matcha.

I saw a TikTok recently where the creator joked that "she thinks everyone is lying about loving matcha lattes." 😂 But I (and so many others) truly LOVE all things matcha!
It's understandable that some find it to be an odd flavor. Those who don't like it might refer to it as "grassy." I prefer the term earthy and also find it to be slightly sweet!
If you're on board the matcha train, like me, I also recommend trying my matcha overnight oats or matcha mug cake. Both are completely tasty. You could even pair them with your iced matcha latte for double the green tea fun.

What The Heck Is Matcha?
Matcha is finely ground powder made from dried green tea leaves! It's a vibrant color and traditionally mixed into hot water with a bamboo whisk for drinking.
Did you know?! Matcha plants are covered with tarps 4 weeks before harvest to restrict photosynthesis. This traps chlorophyll and other nutrients in the leaves making them extra colorful. Science! (source: mizubatea).
Why Make Iced Matcha At Home?
Money: Save LOTS of money making your own iced matcha. A grande (medium) from Starbucks costs over $6.00! Homemade costs about $1.50.
Stay home: Some days, leaving the house it the last thing you want to do. Feel like staying in? Treat yourself to a homemade iced matcha latte. No car ride and no long lines.
SO EASY: Three ingredients, five minutes, tastes nearly identical!
Your Grocery List
- Matcha: You'll want to buy culinary or ceremonial grade matcha powder to ensure good flavor. Quality green tea powder is pricey but potent, meaning you only need a little bit in each drink! I use The Republic Of Tea brand and typically buy it at Kroger. It's around $20 and will make approximately 14 lattes when using 1 & ½ teaspoons per drink (which is what my recipes calls for). Be sure you buy pure matcha powder and not a sweetened matcha mix or tea bags.
- Milk: Use any type of milk you want, dairy or plant based! I LOVE Extra Creamy Chobani Oat Milk and highly recommend.
- Optional sweetener: For a little touch of sweetness, I add a teaspoon of maple syrup. Drizzle more or less depending on your taste preference. You can also use honey, regular white sugar, brown sugar or even vanilla bean paste.

- Boil water on the stovetop or in a kettle.
- Meanwhile, measure matcha powder into a small bowl.
- Add hot water and maple syrup to the bowl. Stir with a bamboo whisk! You can also use a frothing wand.
- At this point, I like to let my matcha mix cool down a bit, then I give it one more good mix. This way it won't melt ice as much.
- Pour sweetened matcha and hot water mixture over ice.
- Add oat milk, or milk of choice.
- Stir well, sip and enjoy! 🍵
Stacey's Top Tips 🍵
If you don't have a bamboo whisk or frothing wand, sift matcha through a small metal sieve when measuring it into the bowl. THEN add hot water and stir with a regular whisk or spoon. This will help prevent clumping and grainy appearance.
Drink Your Matcha With...
Muffins: Enjoy your latte with a banana carrot or quiche muffin. A perfect way to start the day.
Quick-bread: Pumpkin bread is one of my favorite things to eat with iced matcha!
Lunch: When I make salmon poke bowls or salmon bites for lunch, iced matcha is the most delicious pairing.
Make-Ahead Instructions 🍵
You can totally make your iced matcha ahead of time for convenience sake! I recommend making it without ice and storing in the refrigerator. Before drinking, give it a good stir and ice. Enjoy!
Try Different Flavors!
Strawberry: Add strawberry puree or syrup.
Lavender: The perfect spring or summer-time flavor.
Vanilla bean: Stir in a small scoop of vanilla bean paste. Yum!
