Perfect Holiday Appetizer
So scrumptious: Sweet, tangy, citrusy goodness! This dip is definitely a crowd pleaser.
Fast: Whip it up in just 10 minutes.
Simple: You only need 5 ingredients to make this incredible spread.
Transportable: Don't want to go empty-handed to a Christmas party? It's so easy to travel with this appetizer.
Citrus: The holidays overlap with peak orange/citrus season. What better time to utilize this bright, gorgeous flavor?!
Your Grocery List
- Goat cheese: I buy a 10 ounce log! Goat cheese crumbles will also work.
- Navel orange: For fresh citrus zest and juice.
- Sea salt: Just a pinch of flaky sea salt for extra flavor. Regular table salt or kosher salt will do the trick if that's what you've got on hand.
- Honey: Orange and honey are absolutely angelic together. Maple syrup is a nice substitute!
- Sour cream: Or Greek yogurt. Just a dollop will make your dip super smooth. You can totally leave the sour cream out, but the final product will be a little less creamy.
- Optional toppings: Make your dip look fancier by dressing it up with toppings like chopped pistachios, pomegranate seeds, cinnamon granola, dried cranberries, toasted pecans, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, extra honey drizzle and zested orange peel.

- Use a hand mixer, on medium speed, to combine ingredients. Beat until smooth and creamy! You can also use a stand mixer to make this dip.
Dress it up and serve!
- Transfer mixture to a serving dish. Add toppings like extra honey drizzle, chopped pistachios and pomegranate seeds.
- Serve with crostini, crackers, pretzels, apple slices and so much more. Enjoy!
Expert Tip
- Sour cream: You can make this recipe without any sour cream or Greek yogurt, however I find that it makes the goat cheese extra smooth and creamy!
Fun Recipe Variations
Sweetener: Instead of honey try maple syrup, regular white sugar, brown sugar or agave syrup.
Spice: Add a kick to your whipped goat cheese spread by topping it with hot honey!
Savory: Ditch the citrusy sweet flavor profile and use more savory ingredients like olive oil, bacon, olives, fresh herbs, chives, etc.
Toppings: There are SO many yummy toppings you can add to this dip. Try fresh berries, dried cranberries, dates, cinnamon, ground nutmeg, toasted walnuts or pecans, pine nuts and so much more.
Citrus: Swap orange for lemon.
Cheese: Bust out your blender and mix up a creamy honey orange whipped cottage cheese dip.
Serving Suggestions
Whipped goat cheese is the perfect addition to any charcuterie board.
This creamy dip goes great with crackers, pretzels, crusty bread, pita chips, crostini toasts and nuts!
It's also yummy with fruit like sweet, crisp apple slices or strawberries.
Special Equipment
A citrus zester allows you to easily zest the peel of your orange for this recipe. You can try using a cheese grater if you don't have a zester available.
You may also consider using an orange juicer. However, I simply juice my orange by hand.
You'll also need a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip up this dip!
How To Store
Refrigerate whipped goat cheese in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. I like to let it come to room temperature before serving, it's much easier to dip and spread when it's not super cold.
Serving this dip as a party appetizer? It's so convenient to make ahead of time and grab it out of the fridge before guests arrive.
Frequently Asked Questions
I do not soften my goat cheese before making this dip. I find it's soft enough, straight from the refrigerator and mixes with the other ingredients without issue when using an electric or stand mixer.
If you don't have an electric or stand mixer, you can combine ingredients with a whisk. In this case, I would allow your goat cheese to soften up outside of the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before attempting to whisk by hand. You might also consider microwaving your goat cheese on the defrost setting, in 30 second increments, until it's a bit more malleable.
