This gorgeous fruit tray is perfect all on it's own but I absolutely love serving it with dark chocolate hummus, peanut butter yogurt dip or whipped cottage cheese.

    Special Occasions Fruit Platter

I love making a fresh fruit platter for any holiday.

Save money: Valentine's day fruit baskets and arrangements can be pricey. Make your own little snack tray at home and save!

Quick and easy: All you have to do is wash and arrange your favorite fruits to make this healthy snack.

Versatile: Stick with fruit or branch out into cheeses, nuts, dips and spreads or chocolate!

Any shape! Instead of a fruit heart, make a Christmas tree, turkey shape, or snowman for other occasions.

Enjoy seasonal produce: Depending on the time of year, you can use whatever's in season for both affordability and peak flavor purposes.

    What You'll Need

Fruit, fruit and more fruit! I use clementine slices, blueberries, juicy strawberries, raspberries and sweet blackberries.

You could also include apple wedges, pomegranate seeds, grapes, kiwi or pineapple.

If you do want to include apple slices, be sure and soak them in lemon water to keep them looking fresh, otherwise they'll oxidize quickly.

    Making Your Valentine Snack!

Keep scrolling for the full recipe card and measurements. We’ll start here with a quick overview.

    Prep fruits:

    • Peel oranges and soak berries in cool water with 1-2 tablespoons of white vinegar or lemon juice mixed in. This will kill mold spores and keep berries fresh eons longer. And don't worry, I promise they won't taste like vinegar.
    • Drain berries and rinse well. Cut strawberries into slices.
Left: berries soaking in water and vinegar solution. Right: drained and rinsed berries.

    Arrange and enjoy:

    • Arrange your fruit onto trays. You can create an organized and intentional design, or a rustic scattered look!
    • I like serving my fruit tray with these adorable heart toothpicks.

    Stacey's Top Tip

Mix things up and use different fruits or veggies on your tray. However, avoid those that will brown or oxidize quickly as your tray will likely sit out for a while. One exception I'll make? Apple slices! They can be soaked in lemon or vinegar water to stop browning.

Take Things To The Next Level

I keep my tray super simple for quickness and ease.

If you've got some extra time on your hands and want to create heart-shaped fruits, a small cookie cutter will come in handy!

Another way to add extra flair? Add some chocolate-covered strawberries to your tray. They're a Valentine's Day classic and a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth.

What To Serve With Your Fruit

It's fun to include this heart-shaped fruit platter in a happy Valentine's Day breakfast or bunch spread.

Serve with Greek yogurt, and homemade granola for tasty parfaits.

Use fruit from your tray as a topping for pancakes, cinnamon overnight oats, chocolate overnight oats or chocolate chip baked oatmeal!

    Special Equipment

I highly recommend a heart shaped serving platter for your fruit, though it's not 100% necessary.

This platter is super convenient, cute and festive. However, you can simply arrange fruit in a heart shape atop a cutting board or large plate.

Tip: Cut a heart-shaped piece of parchment paper for guidelines if you're struggling with your arrangement.

Fruit picks are also fun for serving, but not required.

    Pin it for later!

    Equipment

    • Heart shaped serving tray
    • Heart toothpicks

    Ingredients

    • 1-2 tablespoons white vinegar or lemon juice *for soaking berries *see note below
    • ½ cup blackberries
    • ½ cup raspberries
    • ¼ cup blueberries
    • 2-3 small strawberries
    • 2-3 small clementines or tangerines *peeled

    Recipe Notes:

Vinegar: Soaking in a vinegar and water solution will kill any mold spores present on your berries and keep them fresh MUCH longer.
General: Should you choose to add apple slices to your tray, be sure and soak them with the berries. Soaking apples in a vinegar or lemon water solution will keep them from turning brown.

    Instructions

    • Fill a large bowl with cool water and stir in 1-2 tablespoons of white vinegar or lemon juice.
    • Add berries, making sure they are covered fully with water and vinegar solution. Soak 5 minutes.
    • While berries soak, peel oranges.
    • Use a colander to drain berries and rinse well.
    • Arrange fruits on your tray and enjoy!
